Spend a reef day beside a sand cay rather than at a pontoon with Ocean Spirit’s Michaelmas Cay cruise. The cay is a seabird nesting site surrounded by reef, with up to four hours to enjoy the beach and included activities.
Beach access and dry reef viewing
A transfer boat carries guests between Ocean Spirit and the cay. Snorkel from the beach with equipment, instruction and a Lycra suit provided, or see below the surface from the included semi-submersible tour. A fish-feeding demonstration adds another way to observe marine life.
Morning and afternoon tea and a hot and cold buffet lunch are included. Cheese, crackers and a glass of wine are served on the return journey.
Choose this trip for its mix of sand-cay scenery, birds and reef activities. Introductory diving is a paid option for eligible guests; certified diving is not offered on this particular tour.

- Check in at the Ocean Spirit Cruises desk inside Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal from 7:30 am. Boarding begins at 8:00 am, departure is at 8:30 am and return is around 5:00 pm.
- Snorkelling is from the beach into open water. Flotation devices and buoyancy vests are available.
- The semi-submersible tour does not need to be pre-booked.
- Introductory diving is an optional extra for guests aged 12 or over. No previous diving experience is needed, but some health conditions may prevent participation.
- Certified diving is not available on this tour.
- Bring a towel, sunglasses, hat, change of clothes and sun protection. Additional drinks and snacks can be purchased on board.
