Learn to dive questions
Should I try an introductory dive or book an Open Water course?
An introductory dive is a supervised first experience and does not give you a diving qualification. An Open Water course includes theory, pool skills and training dives, leading to certification when you successfully complete the requirements. Choose a reef day trip with introductory diving to try it, or a course if you want to qualify and continue diving.
Can I learn to dive without sleeping on a boat?
Yes. The Divers Den four-day course with day trips combines two days of pool and classroom training with two separate reef day trips, returning to Cairns each evening. A liveaboard course includes nights at the reef and opportunities for further dives after qualifying. Compare these options around your accommodation plans and how much time you want aboard.
How many days should I allow, and can I complete theory before arriving?
The beginner courses in this selection generally take four or five days. Pro Dive Cairns offers a four-day option with eLearning completed before arrival, or a five-day option with more classroom and pool time in Cairns. Check the course schedule before arranging other activities; an eLearning option still requires practical training and reef dives.
What should I compare in the course price?
Compare learning materials, equipment, training dives, transfers, meals and any nights aboard. Check whether further dives after certification or a night-dive guide cost extra. The Divers Den day-trip course includes equipment and reef trips, but you still need accommodation in Cairns. A liveaboard package includes accommodation only for the nights specified, not necessarily your whole course.
