Four-Day Open Water Dive Course with Cairns Reef Day Trips

Learn dive theory and pool skills in Cairns, then complete four reef training dives across two day trips. Return to Cairns each evening on this four-day course.

Work towards your first scuba qualification without an overnight boat stay on Divers Den’s four-day Open Water course. Two days at the Cairns training centre lead into two day trips to the outer Great Barrier Reef.

Learn on land, practise at the reef

The first stage covers dive theory, equipment use and pool skills with an instructor. On days three and four, travel to the reef aboard AquaQuest to complete the four open-water training dives required by the course.

This format is useful if you prefer to keep your Cairns accommodation throughout training. It is different from the liveaboard courses: you return to the city after each reef day.

Learning materials, instruction, equipment and the reef trips are included, with meals on reef days. Meals on the training-centre days are at your own cost. Swimming assessments and medical requirements apply; certification is awarded only after successful completion of all course requirements.

  • Courses start every day except Wednesday.
  • The training centre is at 319 Draper Street, Parramatta Park, Cairns.
  • The minimum age is 10. Students under 12 require a private instructor at additional cost.
  • Students must demonstrate a continuous 200 m swim and tread water or float for ten minutes.
  • A dive medical self-assessment is required. Some answers may require medical clearance before the course starts.
  • Meals are included on reef days only, not on the two Cairns training days.
  • Certification depends on successful completion of the course requirements.
  • Follow your booking confirmation for final meeting arrangements and timings. Advise any participation or dietary requirements before travel.
